Sexperiment Day 6 Devotional – Single

sexperimentDay 6 – Creativity

In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth. Now the earth was formless and empty, darkness was over the surface of the deep, and the Spirit of God was hovering over the waters. And God said, “Let there be light,” and there was light. God saw that the light was good, and he separated the light from the darkness. God called the light “day,” and the darkness he called “night.” And there was evening, and there was morning –the first day. And God said, “Let there be an expanse between the waters to separate water from water.” So God made the expanse and separated the water under the expanse from the water above it.  And it was so. God called the expanse “sky.” And there was evening, and there was morning –the second day. And God said, “Let the water under the sky be gathered to one place, and let dry ground appear.” And it was so. God called the dry ground “land,” and the gathered waters he called “seas.” And God saw that it was good. Genesis 1:1-10

“What Happens Outside the Bedroom Affects What Happens Inside the Bedroom”

What comes to mind when you think about the characteristics of God? Some people would respond, “God is holy.” Others might say, “God is all-powerful.” And still others would say, “God is all-knowing.”

While all of those are true characteristics of God that we should admire and imitate, there is one characteristic that we often forget: creativity.

We have heard so much about God being the creator that it is easy to ignore the implications of that fact. That He is ultimately creative.

Take some time to think about what you just read. God took the time to creatively design everything. He thought about the vast array of scenery and spoke the multitude of the earth’s inhabitants into existence. He was creative in what he designed and how he designed it.

As you continue through this week, use God’s example to be creative in how you relate to him. Realize that because you are made in the image of the most creative Creator, He has given you the ability to be creative in connecting with Him.

Answer The Following

  •  What are some creative things you can do to improve your connection with God and others?
  • In what areas of your life could you enhance your creativity?
  • How do you think creativity could have a positive effect on your potential dating relationships and general relationships?

 Take Action

  •  Get creative in your time with God this week. Detach from your normal surroundings. Look for new places to go and pray. Pray out loud. Write your prayers down. Or simply take a daily walk to see things in a new perspective.

“What Happens Outside the Bedroom Affects What Happens Inside the Bedroom”

What comes to mind when you think about the characteristics of God? Some people would respond, “God is holy.” Others might say, “God is all-powerful.” And still others would say, “God is all-knowing.”

While all of these are true characteristics of God, there is one characteristic that we often forget: God is Creative.

We have heard so much about God being the creator that it can be easy to miss the implications. Take some time to think about this. God creatively designed everything.

He thought about the vast array of scenery and the layout of the land.

And he literally spoke the multitude of the earth’s inhabitants into existence.

As you continue through this week, use God’s example and tap into the creative power of your words. Be creative in how you communicate with one another. Don’t fall into a rut with your conversations. “How was your day, honey?” “Fine. You?” “Okay.”

Instead, use your words to encourage one another. Men, if you think of a compliment, say it. Ladies, if you see a way to encourage your husband, say it.

Speak intimacy into existence in your marriage.

Then, as the conversation leads to sex, be creative there as well. Consider the environment, the mood, the surroundings. Don’t enter the sixth day of this Sexperiment with a “checklist mentality, “just getting it done. Put thought, effort, and creativity into your Love Making, Spouse Dating, and Gift Giving – and watch your marriage become a beautiful creation!

Discuss The Following

  •  Ask your spouse, “What area of our marriage would you most like me to focus my creativity?”
  • List some ways together that you can schedule time this week for creative intimacy and connection.

 Take Action

  •  Commit to writing a letter to each other, specifically writing about something that you appreciate about your spouse. This will allow your vulnerability to begin with your communication so that it will extend beyond the bedroom.

 Go Further

  •  Read the introductory section on pages 158-163 of Sexperiment book.
  • Read about additional action steps in this area of your marriage on page 155.

Sexperiment Day 5 Devotional – Singles

sexperimentDay 5 – Legacy

Before I formed you in the womb I knew you, before you were born I set you apart. Jeremiah 1:5

“So Goes Sex, So Goes The Marriage, So Goes The Family, So Goes Society”

The Bible tells us that God knew us before he formed us in our mother’s womb.

That’s pretty impressive! He custom built you and placed you on this big ball of dirt called earth for a specific reason. You are not an accident that happened by chance. God set you apart before birth for a specific purpose, and he wants to help you fulfill your purpose.

A lot of people think, “I don’t have a clue what my purpose is! And even if I did, I’m not perfect enough to be used by God.” But purpose isn’t reserved for the perfect.

Purpose is  something that God has given to every one of us.
If you think you’ve blown it or turned too far away from God, just browse through the pages of Scripture. Most of the people God used were mess-ups! Don’t miss out on God’s perfect plan for your life. You are the perfect candidate to complete God’s plan for your life. Simply ask God to show you why he put you here.

Answer The Following

  • What do you think the purpose is for this season of your life?
  • How can understanding your purpose affect your dating life?
  • Do the relationships in your life (friends, family, dating etc.) help you fulfill your purpose, or distract you?

Take Action

  • Write down 3-5 personal characteristics that you possess that God could use for His purposes.

  • Read the Section The Yoke is Not a Joke on page 157 of Sexperiment book.

Sexperiment Day 5 Devotional – Married

sexperimentDay 5 – Legacy

Do not let any unwholesome talk come out of your mouths, but only what is helpful for building others up according to their needs, that it may benefit those who listen. Ephesians 4:29

So Goes Sex So Goes the Marriage, So Goes the Familly, So Goes Society
In this verse, we discover a powerful reality for marriage. We have the ability to build our spouse up simply by the words that come out of our mouth. But the truth is that it’s not only our ability, it’s also our responsibility.

Husbands, compliments and praises from you will build your wife’s self-esteem and energize her spirit. Wives, you can boost your husband’s confidence by affirming him and giving him recognition. This is how God wants us to communicate with one another.

Others are watching the way we talk to our spouse. It’s been said that lessons are more caught than taught. Your children are watching the way you communicate with your spouse. They are watching how you encourage and support one another.

The words we choose and the way we say them influence others. Like so many of our choices in marriage, the way we talk to our spouse is not just about our relationship, but about the legacy we want to leave others.

We can leave a legacy of encouragement by the way we speak to our spouse.

Carefully choosing our words can strengthen our relationship and set an example for others. Choose your words today with the legacy you want to leave in mind.

Discuss the Following

  • Ask your spouse, “What is one of the most powerful compliments I have ever given you?”
  • List three areas that are important for you to have your spouse’s validation and to hear it from them. Then tell each other.

Take Action

  • Create a list of ways you can honor your spouse through affirmation and admiration during the rest of this week. Choose one each day to help build intimacy in your marriage.

Go Further

  • Read the section How Deep Is Your Footprint on pages 138-139 of Sexperiment book.
  • Read about additional action steps in this area of your marriage on page 155 of Sexperiment book.
